Icono de la Semana: Betsy de la Vega

Soy mexicana de corazón, aunque viajera asidua con gran curiosidad por explorar nuevas culturas y lugares exóticos. Será que visualmente todo me parece tan distinto y nunca dejo de sorprenderme. Estudié Comunicaciones en la Ibero, hice un Diplomado en "Coolhunting and Fashion Trends" en el IED de Barcelona, y acabo de terminar un Master en "Fashion Styling" en Marangoni, UK. Mi mamá era arista nata, y yo estudiada, aunque crecí con mucha sensibilidad por las artes y la belleza. El último año y medio viví en Londres, ciudad que me impactó por ser una plataforma para la creatividad. En Londres, el mundo “underground” de moda, música, bares y zonas no tiene límites para la excentricidad: todo se vale, todos somos "normales". Estando ahí trabajé con diseñadores emergentes y regresé a México con la idea de explotar la creatividad en mi país. México es un lugar lleno de riqueza visual, pero poco trabajada en el ámbito de la moda. 

Me considero una fanática de la música, con el tiempo he ido ampliando mis horizontes y hoy escucho música que nunca pensé escuchar, como la clásica. No soportaría más de 10 minutos oyendo “ska”. Guardo cariño por clásicos como The Beatles o The Cure, aunque en mi coche escucho Feist, Kings Of Convenience o James Blake. Mi festival favorito: Glastonbury. 

Creo que todo en esta vida es influencia de algo que vivimos, y todo lo que vemos y percibimos influencia a creaciones posteriores. Mis artistas favoritos son Kandinsky y Chagall. Me encanta el trabajo fotográfico de Hedi Slimane en su Fashion Diary. Mis diseñadores consentidos son David Koma y Maison Martin Margiela, y el estilo de Piers Atkinson me parece increíble. Mi color favorito es el negro, mi drink el vino blanco. Tengo una perrita bulldog francés y es lo que más risa me puede dar en la vida. Me encantan los animales. Lo que más uso son jeans, botas de piso. Creo que es básico tener en tu closet ropa cómoda como suéteres y t-shirts. Los peores insultos a la moda me parecen los pants fuera de casa y el pelo peinado como actriz de telenovela. Mi consejo: si te vas a pintar la boca roja no te pintes los ojos mucho. Although I'm Mexican at heart, I am a frequent traveler. I have great curiosity to explore new cultures and exotic locations. Visually, everything seems different to me, so places never cease to amaze me. I studied Communications at Ibero, a Diploma in "Coolhunting and Fashion Trends" at IED Barcelona, and I just graduated from a Masters degree in "Fashion Styling" in Marangoni, United Kingdom. My mom was a born artist, and I have a bit of her gift; I grew up with great sensitivity for the arts and beauty. The past year and a half I lived in London, a city that struck me as an amazing platform for creativity. In London, the “underground” world of fashion, music and bars has no limits for eccentricity: anything is possible, we are all "normal". During my time there, I worked with emerging designers and returned to Mexico with the idea of exploiting my country’s creativity. I believe Mexico is a place of amazing visual richness, but has been exploited poorly in the fashion world. 

I am a huge music fan, and over time I have been expanding my horizons. Today, I listen to music I never thought I would, like classical. I could not bear more than 10 minutes listening to "ska". I am fond of classics like The Beatles or The Cure, although in my car I listen to Feist, Kings of Convenience or James Blake. My favorite festival: Glastonbury. 

I think everything in life is influenced by something we lived, and everything we see and perceive today will influence later creations. My favorite artists are Kandinsky and Chagall. I love the photographic work in of Hedi Slimane in Fashion Diary. My dearest designers are David Koma and Maison Martin Margiela, and the incredible style of Piers Atkinson. My favorite color is black, my drink is white wine. I have a French bulldog puppy that makes me laugh more than anything in this world. I love animals. The things I wear the most are jeans and flat boots. I think it's essential to have comfortable clothes like sweaters and t-shirts. The worst insults to fashion are sports trousers worn in the street, and a hairstyle that a soap opera actress would choose. My advice: if you're going to wear red lips, don’t overdo eye makeup. A natural look, even if you're a punk or a hipster, will always be classy. Twitter: @betsytay
