Soy Natalie Roterman y este es mi segundo post para The PAAR Blog. El mes pasado hablé sobre 9 outfits que recordamos con amor, y ahora hablaré sobre una de las personas más cool del mundo del entretenimiento: Sofia Coppola. Algunos dicen que su éxito se debe en gran parte a su apellido, pero sus fans pensamos lo contrario. Esta todóloga ha llegado lejos sin temer ser diferente y nos ha conquistado con su estilo único.

I'm Natalie Roterman and this is my second post for The PAAR Blog. Last month I wrote about nine movie outfits we remember with love, and this month I will write about one of the coolest girls in the entertainment industry: Sofia Coppola. Some say she owes her success to her last name, but her fans don't think so. This do-it-all gal has gone this far by embracing being different and conquering us us with her unique style.






¿Quien es? / Who is she?
Sofía es neoyorquina, y es la hija menor de Eleanor y Francis Coppola. Es guionista, directora de cine, productora y actriz, y fue la primera mujer estadounidense en ser nominada al Oscar por la mejor dirección. Es además aficionada de la moda, la música y de Japón. Su carrera como actriz terminó (sin importarle mucho) después de haber recibido duras críticas por su actuación en El Padrino III.

She is a New Yorker and the youngest daughter of Eleanor and Francis Coppola. She is a screenwriter, film director, producer and, for a brief time, was an actress. She is the first American woman to be nominated to an Oscar for best director. She is a fashion, music and Japan addict. Her career as an actress ended abruptly (and without affecting her much) after receiving harsh criticism for her role in The Godfather III.

• Lick the Star (1998), corto de 14 min en blanco y negro;
• The Virgin Suicides (1999), una adaptación de la novela del mismo nombre de Jeffrey Eugenides; producida por Francis Ford Coppola;
• Lost in Translation (2003), nominada a cuatro Oscares, incluyendo mejor película. Le consiguió a Coppola su primera estatuilla por mejor guión original. Fue filmada en Japón y refleja el amor que la directora le tiene a este país;
• Marie Antoinette (2006), el famoso diseñador Manolo Blahnik diseñó los zapatos para el vestuario y el mismo Christian Louboutin sacó una línea inspirada en la excéntrica reina. Ganó el Oscar por mejor vestuario;
• Somewhere (2010), fue filmada en el Chateau Marmont de Hollywood. Se estrenó en el Festival Internacional de Cine en Venecia en el cual ganó un León de Oro por mejor película;
• The Bling Ring (2013), basada en hechos reales sobre una “pandilla” de adolescentes obsesionados con los famosos de Hollywood que asaltaron sus casas. Se estrena el 14 de Junio.

• Somewhere (2010), it was filmed in Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont and released in the Venice International Film Festival, where it won a Gold Lion for best picture; 
• The Bling Ring (2013), it's based on the true story of a gang of teenagers who were obsessed with Hollywood celebrities and robbed their houses. The premier is on June 14th.

Sofía y la moda / Sofia and fashion
Desde temprana edad tuvo interés por la moda (lo vemos claramente en sus películas) y trabajó como pasante en Chanel a los 15 años. Al terminar su pasantía, empezó una línea de ropa llamada Milkfed, que actualmente solo se vende en Japón. En 2002 Marc Jacobs la eligió como imagen de su fragancia, lo cual resulto en una gran amistad con el diseñador. En 2008 la directora apareció con su padre, Francis Ford Coppola, en una campaña de Louis Vuitton fotografiada por Annie Leibovitz. Hoy, lleva un par de años colaborando con la marca y creando la exitosa colección ‘Sofía Coppola for Louis Vuitton’.

From an early age she showed interest in fashion (clearly shown in her movies) and started out interning for Chanel when she was 15. After that she decided to start her clothing line, Milkfed, which is actually only sold in Japan. In 2002, Marc Jacobs hand-picked her to be the face of his fragrance; which marked the beginning of a strong friendship with the designer. Later, in 2008, the director and her father, Francis Ford Coppola, appeared in a Louis Vuitton campaign photographed by Annie Leibovitz. She's been collaborating with the brand to create her own and very successful line: ‘Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton’.

En la TV / On TV
Combinando su amor por la moda y la música tras las cámaras, Coppola ha dirigido algunos comerciales y videos musicales como el de la fragancia Miss Dior Chérie para Christian Dior con la modelo Maryna Linchuk (2008). Tambien hizo el de la colección de Marni para H&M con Imogen Poots (2012), el video de “Playground Love” de Air y el de “I Just Dont Know What To Do With Myself” de The White Stripes, entre otros.

Combining her love of fashion and music behind cameras, Coppola has directed a few commercials and music videos. Her commercials include Miss Dior Chérie fragrance for Christian Dior starring Maryna Linchuk (2008) and the Marni collection for H&M starring Imogen Poots (2012). Some of the music videos she's directed are “Playground Love” by Air and “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself” by The White Stripes, among others.
