Juan Carlos lived in Mexico for 30 years before moving to the best island in the World: the UK. Although he has great professional ambitions, he says he will always have time for his family and friends, whom he constantly entertains with his sharp sense of humor. The people that never fail to make him smile are his nieces. He loves all kinds of music: from Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones and the Talking Heads, to Mexican popular songs and classics. He is convinced that the noblest profession is teaching. To him, a good teacher is one that transmits knowledge, a wise teacher is one that transmits life values. He aims to teach one day, and he thinks his class will be the most requested course at ITAM, his alma mater, where he learned one of the most important lessons: with privilege comes a great deal of responsibility. He understands that knowledge opens a lot of options, and options translate into freedom, but freedom is intimately linked with responsibility. While passionate about sports - he was captain of the basketball team from elementary through college, practiced karate and swimming, and enjoys a good game of tennis, the NBA Finals and the Olympics, he believes the amounts of money earned by some professional athletes are just ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous is also how a lot of these athletes spend their money. Every single day he wonders what an alien would think of how we exploit the planet's resources, the unfair distribution of wealth in the World, and of our ability to self-destruct our race. He really looks forward to the time when a universal threat comes and all religions, cultures, political systems and races are forced to unite their consciences. While this occurs, Juan Carlos is trying to do what he can at the Mexican Foreign Service, the only professional body that allows a meritocratic, yet bureaucratic, career. He agrees with a former Mexican Foreign Minister when he said that Mexico should "mess with the world, for the world to mess with Mexico". He is convinced that boundaries will disappear one day, and that social networks will help everyone get involved more actively in what happens around the globe. He never visits a museum without a guide or audioguide. His Achilles heel is food: with the exeption of oysters and boiled carrots, he pretty much eats whatever. His favorite food is "ceviche", "tlayuda" with jerky or a "chile en nogada", and always has room for one - or two-desserts. Although he can be a bit a-rhythmic, he tends to improvise quite well in the dance floor. He tends to engage in never-ending conversations while drunk - particularly if these conversations involve good snacks and close friends.

Juan Carlos vivió 30 años en el sur de la Ciudad de México antes de mudarse a la mejor isla de todas: Reino Unido. Aunque tiene grandes ambiciones profesionales, siempre tendrá tiempo para familia y amigos, a quienes entretiene con su agudo sentido del humor. Las personas que más fácilmente le sacan una sonrisa son sus sobrinas. Le encanta todo tipo de música: desde Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones y los Talking Heads, hasta "el barbero de Sevilla" y "árboles de la barranca" de La Banda el Recodo, y el Huapango de Moncayo. Esta convencido de que la profesión más noble es la docencia; que un buen maestro transmite conocimiento y, un sabio lo intercala con valores. Dice que algún día impartirá el curso más solicitado en el ITAM (risas), en donde su profesor favorito le enseñó que los privilegios conllevan responsabilidad. Entiende que el conocimiento abre opciones y que mientras más opciones se tengan, habrá una mayor libertad pero también mayor responsabilidad. Si bien es apasionado de los deportes –fue capitán de la selección de basquetbol desde la primaria hasta la universidad, practicó karate y natación- y disfruta un buen partido de tenis, las finales de la NBA y los Juegos Olímpicos, le parecen ridículas las cantidades de dinero que ganan algunos deportistas profesionales, pero sobre todo insultante la forma en que lo gastan. Casi a diario se pregunta qué opinaría un extraterrestre sobre la forma en que explotamos los recursos del planeta, la injusta distribución de la riqueza y la capacidad de autodestrucción del ser humano. Espera con ansia el momento en que se presente una amenaza universal para que todas las religiones, culturas, sistemas políticos y razas unan sus conciencias. Mientras esto ocurre, Juan Carlos trata de hacer lo que puede desde el Servicio Exterior Mexicano, el único cuerpo profesional de carrera meritocrático, aunque bastante burocrático. Coincide con un ex-canciller mexicano en que México debe “meterse con el Mundo, para que el Mundo se meta con México”. Está convencido que las fronteras tenderán a desaparecer, y de que las redes sociales ayudarán a que todos nos involucremos más activamente en lo que suceda en cualquier latitud. No le gusta meterse a los museos sin guía o audioguía. Su talón de Aquiles es la comida: fuera de los ostiones y las zanahorias hervidas, come lo que sea. Sus platillos favoritos son el ceviche, la "tlayuda con tasajo", o un chile en nogada, y siempre tiene espacio para uno - o dos- postres. Aunque puede ser un poco a-rítmico, improvisa bastante bien en la pista de baile. Desde su primera borrachera le encantó “netear”: su  combinación perfecta es botana, un par de whiskeys y una buena conversación.
