Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Andrea has done a lot of random things and worn a lot of random outfits in the process. She has studied in New Zealand and Scotland; taught English in Japan; worked as a fashion model in Hong Kong and Singapore; and travelled the globe as a travel writer. More recently, she spent a year and a half doing fieldwork in Rwanda for a Phd in social anthropology. Since part of her research was on popular culture, she hung out with local designers, models, and beauty pageant winners. Given her background in fashion, she ended up doing a few photo shoots for an up-and-coming Rwandan designer, Francis Zahabu. “Francis’ clothing is beautiful”, she gushes. “He combines African fabrics with more European-style tailoring. Every time I wear one of his pieces, everyone wants to know where I got it!” Other random Rwandan fashion-related activities: helping to organise the country’s first Big and Beautiful Fashion show for plus-sized models and appearing in the music video of the talented Rwandan singer, Mani Martin. “Let’s just say my research is wide-ranging”, she says. “There’s a lot happening in Rwanda now – the country is much more than the genocide”.

Andrea nació y creció en Toronto, Canada y ha estado en todo tipo de aventuras y usado todo tipo de outfits. "La ropa de Francis es increíble", me contó Andrea, "combina textiles africanos con costura europea, y cada vez que uso alguno de sus diseños, todo mundo me pregunta en donde lo compre." Otras experiencias en Rwanda incluyen haber ayudado a organizar el primer desfile de modas para modelos rellenitas, y aparecer en el video musical del cantante Mani Martin. "Digamos que mi investigación es bastante variada", dice Andrea. "Muchas cosas están pasando en Rwanda ahorita - el país es mucho mas que lo que dejo un genocidio."
