After 2 weekends without posts, I make my return reviewing an album that I had been expecting for the past 2 years. Ever since The Antlers released Burst Apart in 2011, I knew they were one of my favorite bands of recent years. Two months ago I shared with you Palace, the first single released from Familiars, their fourth studio album. Although Palace was a song that pleasantly surprised me, it didn't give me an idea of how the rest of the album would sound like.
To my surprise, Familiars shows a more calm and mature facet of the band, it almost makes us perceive a totally different side to The Antlers. While this album retains some aspects that have been constant in previous albums, such as metal instruments in songs like Sylvia from their album Hospice or Zelda from their latest EP Undersea, they now experiment a much more acoustic and jazzy sound. I highly recommend you listen to Familiars, especially if you are in Mexico City right now, as the album is perfect for gray and rainy days. Director is definitely my favorite song so far.

completo.
The Antlers
